Where Busting Caps has a whole new meaning

So.. I have a Heathkit H-8 with the H-17 Floppy Drive unit. I purchased it from an estate sale in upstate New York.

When I took it home I disconnected the power supply to make sure it worked before trying to turn on the whole unit. The power supply looked good, so I reconnected everything and tuned it on and POP!  Smoke flowed out of the unit. I live in an tiny apartment so I had to disable the smoke detector before it went off.  I took a pic of the capacitor that popped which you see here..

I am thinking of changing the motto of 8Bit Aficionado to say “Where Busting Caps has a whole new meaning”
